While taking more than one medication cre should be taken to consult with a doctor. Known medications that should be avoided when taking Desogen are: St. John’s wort, phenylbutazone, acetaminophen, HIV medicines like fosamprenavir, indinavir, ritonavir, and amprenavir. Also, seizure medications that include primidone, carbamazepine, felbamate and oxcarbazepine along with antibiotics including minocycline, rifampin, griseofulvin, amoxicillin, doxycycline, should not be taken while on the Desogen contraceptive. If you are on any medication at all you need to consult your doctor before taking Desogen.

If you suffer from diseases such as depression, diabetes, high cholesterol level, gallbladder disease, epilepsy, menstrual problems, or fibrocystic breast disease you should avoid taking Desogen unless otherwise advised and under the care of expert medical advice.

Desogen Hormones and Levels

Desogen is combination monophasic birth control pill. Monophasic oral contraceptives deliver the same levels of hormones for all 21 pills. The other 7 pills have no hormones and are there to maintain the habit of taking them every day.

The specific Desogen hormone level is:

Estrogen–Ethinyl estradiol 30 mcgm (micro grams)
Progestin– Desogestrel–0.15 mg

Dosage

Desogen should be taken exactly as prescribed by the doctor. Desogen effectiveness relies on a periodic cycle of regularly taking the pills. You should not take them beyond the recommended length of time. The first birth control pill should be taken either on the first Sunday after your period or on the day your period begins.
