John McCain Hates Birth Control

By Mike DeVonish at 3:03 am on July 15, 2008 | No comments

John McCain is trying to keep a secret. On one hand he’s in favor of Viagra being covered by insurers yet he has stayed silent on birth control being covered. The not so dirty secret is hehas a well documented record of voting against birth control and want to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“McCain’s highly uncomfortable refusal to discuss whether insurers who cover Viagra should also cover birth control pills has actually started to break through the media filter, but unfortunately it’s becoming known as “the Viagra question,”…”

College Students May Get Lower Prices for Birth Control Pills

By Mike DeVonish at 5:41 am on June 15, 2008 | No comments

The deficit reduction act had language that killed discounts for birth control pills.  Now  house members want provision in new  war  funding bill.    This  provision  will  undo a lot of the damage  done by the deficit reduction act  to low income  individuals and college students

More than 100 House members are urging congressional leaders to include language in a war spending bill to reverse the rising costs of birth control drugs and devices at health centers serving low-income women, including college students.”

Colleges have been handling this in their own way for a while but now it seems thy will get a break in the [hopefully] near future.

Ortho Evra Birth Control Patch Legal Battle Rages On

By Mike DeVonish at 5:27 pm on April 12, 2008 | No comments

Johnson & Johnson’s legal battles may not be front page news anymore but the battle rages on. This is the problem with big media an why I seldom watch or read any of it…no follow up.

Lawyers Are Marching Forward.

A few times a week I’m on the net looking for birth control related news. I’ve seen a lot of Google ads from lawyers looking to represent women who’ve had problems with the patch. Check out the ad on this screen grab from the bottom of my site:

I’m always skeptical when I see lawyers advertising. I feel like they’re in a feeding frenzy and wonder if the threat is real or only perceived as real.

Johnson & Johnson must be getting tired of the law suits and all the bad press. J&J settled a lawsuit over the death of a 14 year old girl using the patch. As an experiment I put birth control patch in Google and all I saw were a negative stories and a few information articles on how they work. Anyone who looks into it surely isn’t going to rush to buy it.

What’s Up With the FDA?

In 2006 the FDA issued a statement that the patch needed more studies but didn’t take it off the market. Just recently they modified the label stating the high risks of using it. That implies to me it’s still being sold. How much does it take to pull the plug on a product that’s dangerous especially since it’s come to light that J&J hid the true results of the study?

J&J Fights Back

What is Johnson & Johnson doing now? They’ve decided to fight back. Yup fight back. This story goes into how J&J is trying to make it illegal for people to sue them over the patch related incidents. Basically they say if the FDA approved it then you can’t sue.

When I first looked at the patch I decided it wasn’t the way to go for my daughter and any women. That opinion still stands.

Want another reason to quit smoking? An online study cunducted in November 0f 2007 sheds new light on women who smoke whilke on birth control pills.

“Smoking while on birth control containing hormones like The Pill, Patch or Ring may increase the risk of serious health problems, such as blood clots, stroke and heart attack. Hormonal Manipulation and You

By Mike DeVonish at 7:08 am on February 12, 2008 | No comments

FUD. Fear uncertainty and doubt.Once upon a time this was what writers talked about because it causes an immediate reaction for most people. It gets readers. It gets people’s interests. They want to know more about the “bad stuff out there”Well, I happened across a site that delivers just that!Although they may offer something of use the technique is clear…get them scared enough to click.

The only reason I’m doing this is for you to see how it done.

Ok, I could be wrong with my first impression…You be the judge.

Teen birth-rate rise small but surprising

By Mike DeVonish at 2:16 am on December 31, 2007 | No comments

Births are up for teenagers all over the place according to statistics. If you look at the picture on the site I’m referring you to then you’ll see a desperate image. Education is the key gang. I live in NYC and in my world the moms take off 3 months and go back to work because the couple can’t survive and raise a child on one salary. Ultimately a parent sends their child to a baby sitter that does what they do—you don’t know what they do because you are at work—then they pick their baby up and go home.

The killer is that you don’t raise your child in this scenario…the baby sitter does along with the TV

And people wonder why teens are getting pregnant

Here is the story:

Pharmacies Do Not Have to Sell the Morning After Pill Says Federal Judge

By Mike DeVonish at 4:33 pm on December 14, 2007 | No comments

The battle is raging in Washington state as a federal judge ruled pharmacies are not obligated to sell the morning after pill if they have moral objections. Personally, I think a store of any kind should be able to sell what ever it wants. Washington state thinks different. They wanted to “enforce” a rule making emergency contraception available in every pharmacy.

The language and argument reek of pro-choice and pro-life camps when it isn’t necessary. If an owner doesn’t want to sell something they don’t have to. We don’t need a rule or law forcing them to think like someone else. Besides if I can’t find what I want at one place, I’ll look for a place that has it.

One of the argument is the morning after mill it “tantamount to abortion”. As unsavory as abortion in any form may be, it’s still legal. The real issue is the lack of education young people get about pregnancy and the responsibilities that come with sexual relationships.

Properly educated people make better decisions and they don’t have to go for a “quick fix” The sad part is that a person can become accustomed to quick fix and anyone whose been around a while knows the quick fix is gone as fast is it came.

Read the story here. You may have scroll down a bit because they don’t have individual pages for the local digest.
